Faith Community Nursing

Faith Community Nurses and interested Registered Nurses come together to pray, witness, support, and learn and share in the context of faith and health.

What is a Faith Community Nurse?

Faith Community Nursing is recognized by the American Nurses Association as a speciality practice area for registered nurses who have completed an endorsed training program. In some communities, parish nurses are called 'congregational health nurses'. This is an independent nursing practice which does not involve 'hands-on' health care. The nurse serves with a faith community ministerial team by actively promoting wellness, wholeness, and preventive health. Parish nursing originated in Illinois during the 1980's; over 10,000 parish nurses are now part of an international movement.
