A Message from Marilyn Whitson & Caryl Prati
Well we’ve accomplished a great deal since October 2nd when Caryl, Marilyn Seiler and I completed an introductory education session by conference call with Michigan to begin to learn our new documentation program.
We have 30 RN’s who have agreed to participate. Much communication has taken place by letter, phone and email. We had one on-site training class at Catholic Charities and have done individual assistance. Some have learned by just using the training site.
At this time we have two nurses who have documented using all 3 charting forms, 10 nurses who have used the Individual Interaction Form, and 16 nurses who have used the Monthly Group Report for a total of 18 users or 42.86%. Issues that have prevented everyone from being “on” include ill health, family issues, and professional responsibilities. We have three additional nurses who have entered data that has not been credited at this time, so we continue to learn as well.
The exciting thing is the results so far with less than half of the nurses using the program!
We selected just a few of the categories by viewing ALL REPORTS that showed the following as of 12/17/07:
-
Education/Information Classes
-
914 participants Total Group (all categories)
-
5,069 impacted by our efforts.
-
Total Time Worked 971 hours.
-
•Safety: 231
-
•Other: 512
-
•Screenings: 3,857
-
•Blood Pressures: 356
-
•Blood Sugar: 144
-
•Flu Shots: 2,515
-
•Health Fair: 662
-
•Support Groups: 298
This is amazing! Marilyn Seiler and Mary Diane will use these numbers in the interim report they submit January 4th to the Butterfield Foundation who provided the grant monies. We can concretely demonstrate the impact faith community nursing is having on the health of fellow Oklahomans. Think of the numbers we will have when all 30 nurses are using the program! Think of the numbers we will have when all 30 nurses are using the program! Think of the impact we could show if the program allowed all 51 members to participate!
The one thing that we want to add is how helpful Marilyn Seiler, who is manager of our new resource center, has been to Caryl and I and our users. Without her help, this would have been much more difficult as Administrator and Co-administrator. We will continue to keep you informed of our progress.
Respectfully submitted:
Caryl Prati & Marilyn Whitson
